昨日の続きで、友人の転職活動に伴うリファレンスチェックの依頼に対応した。存在は知っていたが、実際に自分が評価者側になるのは初めての経験だ。
Following up on yesterday, I completed the reference checks for my friend’s job application—a process I knew existed but had never personally participated in until now.
2社から依頼があり、1社は電話取材であっという間に終わったが、もう1社のWebアンケート方式は想定外にヘビーだった。
I handled requests from two companies: one was a simple phone interview that finished quickly, but the other was a web-based questionnaire that proved surprisingly onerous.
8問もの記述式質問があり、完了までにたっぷり1時間。これほどの手間をかけさせるとなると、自分が頼む側になった時は、相手を慎重に選ばなければならないと痛感した。
With eight detailed questions to answer, it took me a full hour to complete, making me realize just how heavy the workload is for the person providing the reference.
「誰でもいい」で頼める分量ではないし、熱意を持って書いてくれる信頼できる人でないと、こちらのキャリアまで危険にさらしかねない。
This was an eye-opening experience; when my turn comes, I now know I must choose my referees carefully, as asking just “anyone” would be imposing a significant burden.
友人のために一肌脱いだ形だが、採用プロセスの裏側を知る貴重な予行演習ができ、彼女には（手間はかかったが）少しだけ感謝している。
Despite the effort involved, I am slightly grateful to my friend for giving me this valuable behind-the-scenes look at the hiring vetting process.
