ラジオでふと耳にした「ナミビア砂漠を走るレース」。そんな現実離れした世界が存在するのかと衝撃を受けると同時に、好奇心旺盛な私の心に小さな火が灯った。
Hearing about the “Namib Desert Race” on the radio was a shock to the system; the idea sounded surreal, yet it immediately piqued my curiosity.
とはいえ、今の私はフルマラソンすら完走できていないし、ウルトラマラソンなんて夢のまた夢。自分の基礎体力がまだそのレベルに達していないことは、痛いほど理解している。
That said, I need to be realistic—I haven’t even conquered a full marathon yet, so I clearly lack the fundamental physical strength required for such an extreme feat.
しかし、参加者には60代の方も多いという事実は朗報だ。「若くなければできない」わけではない。つまり、今すぐに挑めなくとも、準備をする時間は十分に残されているということだ。
Encouragingly, I learned that participants include people in their 60s, suggesting that this isn’t solely a young person’s game and that I have plenty of time to prepare.
かつてエジプトで目にした、見渡す限りの砂の世界。あの中を1週間も走り続けるなんて、想像するだけで精神がおかしくなりそうなほど**畏れ多い(daunting)**挑戦だ。
Recalling the endless sands I saw in Egypt, the prospect of running through such a void for a week is daunting, bordering on a test of sanity rather than just fitness.
それでも、まだ見ぬ世界への興味は尽きない。この過酷なレースを「人生の最終ゴール(Bucket List)」の一つに据えて、まずは地道な体力作りから始めていこうと思う。
Nevertheless, I’ve decided to place this challenge as an “ultimate milestone” on my bucket list, committing to systematically building my endurance starting today.
