After my Shinkansen commuter pass expired, my son stopped asking to ride the Shinkansen when we went out on weekends.
Recently, our routine has been to go to a park where we can watch the trains, using a rental car.
The park is located alongside the railway, and since there’s little car traffic and the roads are straight, it’s a great place for him to practice riding his bicycle. We usually spend about two hours playing together at the park and along the road.
Also, eating at the Japanese BBQ restaurant next to the park has become another part of our weekend routine. I recently found out that it offers all-you-can-eat BBQ, and toddlers can eat for free. That’s an amazing deal — and we even get a 50% discount when dining with a child.
My son loves BBQ as much as he loves ramen, and we ended up going to the same restaurant two weekends in a row.
As his father, it makes me happy to see him eat heartily. Right now, he can enjoy great food with great service, and I hope he continues to love BBQ meals.
To be continued.
