A New Decision Over Lunch: Choosing People Over Pay

You can hear the voice recording for the diary.

I had lunch with my former boss who recently invited me to join his company.

Since I asked him to meet so I could give my response to his offer, he brought along one of his junior colleagues, who is also the head of the Project Management Department.

What left the biggest impression on me after lunch was how casually and enjoyably they spoke with each other. In my current company, there aren’t many people I can talk to in that way. I know that salary is important, but I’ve come to realize that having great colleagues is even more valuable—so I decided to apply to their company.

Although my annual income will decrease, other conditions such as the work environment and the ability to work from home will improve.

Since remote work isn’t currently allowed, I discussed my concerns with them, and they said they would consider letting me use a shared office. So now, I’m planning to look for a suitable and reasonably priced shared office near my apartment. Ideally, I’d like to find one in front of my favorite public bath—that would be perfect. I’ll start researching right away.

To be continued.
