妹家族宅にてクリスマス会に参加。
My family visited my sister’s house for a Christmas party.
我が家がピザとサラダを、妹宅でスープとドーナツを準備しての昼食会である。今年が初めての試みであったけど、とてもいい機会だと思った。
We brought pizza and salad, while my sister’s family prepared corn soup and donuts for everyone’s lunch. This was our first time having a Christmas party together, and it was a great opportunity to catch up with each other.
今会で感じたのは、親しき中にも礼儀あり、ということ。ピザが主食だったこともあり、我が家はてっきりジュースがあるものだと思っていたので、あえてオーダーはしなかった。
I learned an important lesson from the party: politeness isn’t just for strangers. Since the pizza we picked up was the main dish, both my wife and I assumed that my sister’s family would provide Coca-Cola, so we didn’t bring any on purpose.
しかし、彼らとしては、わたしたちはいつも水しか飲まないので、ジュースは今回も不要と判断したらしい。
However, they didn’t think it was necessary because they’d always seen us drink water instead.
兄妹とはいえ、心が通じ合う訳では無いことを再認識。これからは、しっかり自分の意思は伝えるようにしたい。
This made me realize that even among siblings, we can still have misunderstandings. Going forward, I’ll make an effort to express my intentions more clearly.
