Reflections on a Remote Interview: Navigating Advice and Decisions

You can hear the voice recording for the diary.

I received a call from my recruitment consultant early this morning. He informed me that the first-round interview is scheduled for this evening. Initially, we had requested an in-person interview, but it seems it will now be conducted remotely.

Since I was at the office today and unable to use a meeting room in my company for the interview, he suggested we use his company’s meeting room instead.

To my surprise, the interviewer turned out to be the same person from HR who conducted my interview with the same company two years ago. During that previous interview, I was aiming to transition from my first job, and her analogy of job changes being akin to changing weapons in a role-playing game left a lasting impression on me.

Despite successfully advancing to the next round this time, she cautioned me about the risks associated with frequent job changes. Becoming a job hopper would make future job changes even more challenging, she warned, and advised me to consider staying with my current company for a few more years.

Although her advice was to refrain from changing jobs, I found it interesting that I still managed to pass her interview. Regardless, this experience has taught me that I have the ability to change jobs whenever I decide to. As a result, I’ve decided not to rush into anything and to proceed with my job change plans with careful consideration.

To be continued.
