Discovering Sumo: A Memorable Day at the Championship and Meet-Up

You can hear the voice recording for the diary.

I watched the Sumo Championship today while attending a meet-up organized by the members of Liberal Arts City.

I didn’t know much about Sumo, and I arrived at the national sumo arena right after the morning opening. We watched the championship from the beginning, even though most of the seats were empty.

Since the championship started with the rookies in the morning, there were some spectators in the arena. Although the arena can accommodate 10,000 spectators, there were probably fewer than 100 people at that time.

The host of this meet-up kindly explained Sumo and provided a tour of the arena, making sure we didn’t get tired of staying there. We had a hot pot meal, which is typically enjoyed by sumo wrestlers, for our lunch. Thanks to her explanation, I developed a love for Sumo.

The championship in the afternoon was more spectacular than the matches in the morning. In the end, I found myself cheering along with the other spectators for each match. I really enjoyed today.

To be continued.
