今日は、社内での同僚との会話の中で、”厳密にいえば”を英語でいうとTechnicallyであることを知った。
During a discussion at the office, I learned that the word ‘technically’ can be used to refer to something in a strict or precise sense.
厳密には、とか、基本的には、とか、は日本語的な言い回しだとエジプトにいたころからずっと思っていて、英語でそんな意味を指す言葉があるなんて、思ってもみなかった。
Previously, I had the impression that this type of expression was unique to Japanese and that English lacked similar words.
しかも、Technicallyって、技術的には、専門的には、という意味がどうしても先行してしまい、それ以外の意味があるとは思ってなかった。
I also associated ‘technically’ primarily with industrial or mechanical contexts, and I didn’t consider its broader usage. However, today’s conversation made me realize that ‘technically’ can have various meanings beyond my initial understanding.
また１つ勉強になった。
