妻とケンカした。原因は５月人形を買うかどうか。
I had an argument with my wife over whether we should buy Japanese armor and a helmet.
自分はいらないと思っている反面、妻は必要だとのこと。
She said that we have to buy it but my opinion is the opposite.
本来、５月人形は男の子の無病息災を願うもの。
Traditionally, Japanese armor and helmets symbolize a boy’s birth and for the boy to grow strong.
しかし、なければならないものでもないし、スピリチュアルなことは信じていない。
However, it is not mandatory and I don’t believe in such traditional beliefs.
数万円の商品でケンカしててもしょうがないと思ったので、買うことにした。いろいろ口論したが、自分が折れて買うことにした。
I gave up and ended the quarrel to avoid the feeling of awkwardness of getting Japanese armor and a helmet that cost tens of thousands of yen.
予定外の出費だったが、良好な関係のためには仕方ない。
It cannot be helped even though it was an unexpected expense.
