Ramen Regrets and Job Talk—A Lesson in Toppings and Timing

一緒に今の会社に転職した上司といっしょに新しく引っ越したオフィスの近くにある二郎系ラーメン屋に行ってきた。

I went to a Jiro-style ramen shop near the office with my boss, who recently joined the company.

 

お互いに転職の意思を考えながらの二郎系ラーメン。正直、食べなれていることもあり、豚山のほうがおいしいと感じた。

While eating, we talked about our thoughts on changing jobs. Honestly, I prefer the ramen at Butayama over today’s ramen, probably because I’m more used to it.

 

豚と称されるチャーシューも冷たく脂が固まっていてボソボソ。肉を食べている実感はあるけど、いっぱいはいらない。6枚注文してちょっと後悔。

The chashu pork, called “Buta” by Jiro-style ramen enthusiasts, was cold, and both the fat and the meat itself were tough. While the texture made me feel like I was really eating meat, it wasn’t enjoyable, and I didn’t feel like eating much. I regretted ordering six pieces of chashu.

 

唯一のメリットは並ばずに食べられたこと。二郎系ラーメン屋で、都内でランチタイムに並ばずに食べられるのは、とても大きい。

The only real advantage of this shop was that there was no wait to get in. It’s rare to find a Jiro-style ramen shop in the Tokyo metropolitan area without a line, so that’s a big plus.

 

チャーシューは多くせず、ネギなど違うもので満たせば悪くはないと思う。いずれにせよ、今度の全身脱毛のときに休みを取ってあるので、施術前に豚山で食べたい。

Next time, I’ll order ramen with extra green onions instead of extra chashu. Either way, I plan to go to Butayama before my next body hair removal treatment since I’ll be taking the day off.
