First Ride on the Sunrise Seto—My Sleeper Train Journey to Shikoku

You can hear the voice recording for the diary.

I went on a business trip to Tokushima Prefecture in Shikoku, taking the Sunrise Seto. This was my first time visiting Shikoku.

I’m not sure if it was because of the off-season in winter, but I was able to secure a ticket for the luxury room, which is usually hard to get. I got lucky.

Since my travel expenses started covering meals from today, I went to my favorite Jiro-style ramen spot at Tokyo Station for lunch. I was completely full and didn’t need dinner, so I was ready to board the train.

The Sunrise Seto departs from Tokyo Station at 21:50. As much as I wanted to enjoy my time on the sleeper train, I knew that if I stayed up too late, tomorrow would be tough. Even though I had the rare chance to enjoy a luxury room, I took a shower before departure and went to bed early so I could wake up refreshed the next morning.

I fell asleep to the rhythmic sounds of the train—it was incredibly relaxing. The next morning, I crossed the Seto Ohashi Bridge for the first time. The massive bridge combined with the cozy train sounds made for a truly impressive experience. It was so enjoyable that I already want to ride the Sunrise Seto again soon.

To be continued.
