前職の友人に連絡すると、エジプトで一緒だったメンバーがワシントンに駐在していることを聞いた。
When I contacted my old friend, he told me that one of our former colleagues, who had also worked at the Egypt branch office, has been transferred to the Washington office.
ワシントンはわたしがどうしても行きたかった場所。そこに駐在されているのは、とても羨ましい。もし同社に残っていれば、わたしにも可能性があったことを考えると若干は後悔している。
The Washington office in the company is the most desirable branch for me. I envy him greatly. I regret my decision to leave the company when there was a possibility for me to be transferred to that office.
けど、それまで耐えられたかはわからない。いや、きっと無理だったと思う。たとえ、異動が約束されていたとして我慢できなかっただろう。今こうして、年収がアップし、新しくキャリアを作れているし、仮に同社に残って駐在のチケットが取れなかった時のショックは計り知れない。
However, I’m not sure I could have endured the poor work environment and group dynamics at the company. No, I definitely couldn’t have handled it, even if I had been planned for a transfer to the branch office a few years later. Now, I’ve been able to increase my annual income with my new career. ワシントンは無理かもしれないけど、なんとかして外国での駐在勤務を獲得したい。というか、絶対に獲得してやる！駐在している人の話を聞いて、また改めてやる気が出た。
Although it is now difficult to be transferred to Washington, I am determined to get transferred overseas, no matter what it takes. After hearing my junior’s opinion, I am even more enthusiastic about achieving this goal.
