A Long-Awaited Factory Tour: Discovering the Secrets of Calpis

You can hear the voice recording for the diary.

I attended a factory tour of Asahi Soft Drink Co., Ltd. in Tatebayashi, Gunma Prefecture, with my family.

After discovering the link for the factory tour, I kept trying to make a reservation and finally succeeded—it took six months to book.

The factory was incredibly clean, and they provided a detailed explanation of the steps to make Calpis. Initially, I assumed Calpis was an artificial drink, but I was surprised to learn it’s actually made from milk.

While the factory primarily focuses on producing Calpis, the specific product being made varies depending on the day and demand. On the day of our visit, they were producing a lemon-flavored drink.

The highlight of the tour was the tasting session at the end, which was our main reason for attending. Both my wife and I had expected it to be an all-you-can-drink experience, similar to other factory tours. However, they only gave us one cup of Calpis each, which was a bit disappointing. That said, the tour itself was free, and we still thoroughly enjoyed it. Overall, it was a great family outing!

To be continued.
