A Pleasant Surprise: Child Care Leave at My New Company

You can hear the voice recording for the diary.

I took a day off yesterday. Since my wife is getting better, I went back to work at the office today.

When I checked my work schedule, I realized that yesterday’s day off was recorded as child care leave. Before checking, I was planning to apply for my summer holiday, so this came as a pleasant surprise.

I also reviewed my company’s labor regulations just to be sure, and it clearly mentions child care leave as a valid reason for taking time off. I had always assumed that this kind of benefit was only offered by large Japanese companies, but I was wrong.

When I worked for a major Japanese company, I was told that child care leave was a privilege exclusive to employees of big companies, and that I was fortunate to have access to it.

However, it turns out that even a small foreign company offers the same leave benefits. Moreover, my salary has increased significantly compared to what I earned back then, so the financial impact of taking a day off is much less now. This experience made me realize that sticking to just one company can be like being a frog in a well. I’m really glad I changed jobs.

To be continued.
