一昨日の帰り道、新幹線のグリーン車で今回の出張での出来事を考えていた。
As I reflected on my business trip during my return journey in the Green car two days ago, I couldn’t help but ponder the vast disparity in earnings among individuals.
年収数百万円で働く人がほとんどの中、全く同じサラリーマンでありながら生涯年収を1年で稼ぎ切ってしまう人が少なからず存在する。
While most people, myself included, earn several million yen annually, there are those select few who amass a fortune equivalent to a lifetime’s earnings within just one year.
年収差20倍分の時間、成果を出しているかといえば、決してそんなわけではない。同じタスクに対する会社からの誠実さの表れである。稼いてきてくれた人に多く分配するか、それとも、他の社員と仲良く平等に配ってしまうか。
It’s not necessarily true that those who earn exorbitant sums work twenty times longer or generate twenty times more profits than ordinary workers. Instead, it reflects the company’s appreciation for the employees’ accomplishments. There are typically two approaches: either profits are distributed based on individual contributions, or they are divided equally among all employees.
今までは、後者が当たり前だと思っていた。なぜなら、同じ会社で働くサラリーマンなのだから、稼ぐ人もいれば、それを支える人もいて、得られた果実はみんなで分配するものだと思っていた。
Until then, I had always assumed the latter to be the obvious choice. After all, each employee plays a distinct role within the company, with some directly generating revenue and others providing support behind the scenes. Thus, it seemed fair to distribute profits equally among all.
でも彼の話を聞いて、それは全く見当外れであり、やりがい搾取の1つだと思った。会社の先頭に立って稼いでくれる人に報いてくれる、そんな会社で仕事がしたい。
However, my perspective shifted upon hearing his opinion. I began to see that such a mindset could potentially exploit employees. Now, I am inclined to seek out companies that reward their front-line employees for their dedication and hard work.
