今日は、長男の３歳の誕生日。
It was my son’s 3rd birthday today.
先週の金曜日にアジア統括部長との会議にて、これまで以上に進捗を期待され、休みがとれないと思っていた。しかし、その後の日本支社長との話で、仕事はメリハリが大事、会社の都合も大事だけど、地元の人の気持ちになって仕事をするように言われた。なにより、仕事よりも家族を優先してほしい、とも言われ、結局休むことにした。
Initially, I didn’t think I would be able to take a paid vacation due to the higher workload expected by the head of the APAC department. However, my country branch manager emphasized the importance of separating work and private life and encouraged me to consider the local people’s perspective over the company’s circumstances. Most importantly, he advised me to prioritize my family over work, so I decided to take a paid vacation today.
ケーキはまだ食べないと思い、妻がパフェの材料を買ってきたので、夜ごはんを食べ終わった後に、３人でそれぞれパフェを作った。
Since both my wife and I believed our son wouldn’t want a traditional birthday cake, she prepared the ingredients for a parfait. We all made it ourselves after dinner.
縦長のカップに妻が用意した材料を入れるだけであったが、息子はとても楽しそうに作っていた。もちろん、味はとてもうまい。
Even though we simply layered the ingredients my wife prepared in a tall cup, our son enjoyed the process of making it. And, of course, it tasted delicious.
振り返ってみると３年間はあっという間だった。この前、友人に子供を作って楽しいか、後悔してないかを聞かれたけど、楽しかった、作ってよかったと思っている。
Reflecting on the past, it’s astonishing how quickly time has passed since his birth. A friend once asked me whether it was a good decision to have children, and I didn’t have a clear answer before. Now, I can confidently say that I’m grateful for having our son.
