最近、長男といっしょに駅で電車を見ていて感じることがある。
Lately, I’ve been noticing something while watching the trains at my station with my son.
それは、貨物列車のタイミングが全く読めない、ということ。時刻表が読めないので、これまでの経験で来るタイミングを計っている。
It’s the difficulty I face in predicting the timing of the freight trains passing through. Since I can’t read their timetables, I usually rely on our past experiences to estimate when they’ll arrive.
それでも、毎週来るタイミングが微妙に異なり、全く読めない。実際今日も、想定していた時間には来ず、その代わりに、反対の列車が複数編成来る始末である。
However, even though I’ve been doing this for a while, the freight trains’ schedules seem to vary slightly from week to week. Today, for instance, the freight trains didn’t arrive at the time I expected, and in the end, different freight trains came from the opposite direction instead.
時刻表を読もうにも、読み方がわからないし、経験に頼ってもたまにしか当てにならないので難しい。
Despite my attempts to read their timetables, I couldn’t make sense of them. On the other hand, when I trust my intuition to gauge the timing, sometimes it turns out to be right. So, predicting when the freight trains will come can be quite challenging.
正直、鉄ヲタとして恥ずかしい。少し時間を作って、読み方を勉強したい。なんか、いろいろやりたいことばかりで時間がない。でもその分、充実している。
I must admit, as a train enthusiast, this can be a bit embarrassing for me. I’d really like to learn how to read the timetables for the freight trains, but finding the time for it is a challenge. Nevertheless, I’m content with my life as it is.
