前の会社の先輩に連絡をして、一緒にランチをしてきた。
I had lunch with a former coworker today.
というのも、本来の予定では、退社の挨拶をするため出社だったのもあり、同じ会社の同僚とランチをする予定であったが、ドタキャンされてしまい、急にお願いした。
Originally, I had planned to have lunch with one of my current colleagues to announce my resignation during an office meeting. However, the lunch appointment was canceled at the last minute, so I reached out to my ex-co-worker instead.
だが、結果としては、とてもよかった。
The cancellation of the lunch and meeting my ex-co-worker turned out to be beneficial for two reasons.
まず、その先輩は、今年定年退職されるということを知った。もうすぐとは知っていたが、まさか今年だとは思わなかった。
First, I learned that he will be retiring this year. Although I was aware that his retirement was approaching in the next few years, I didn’t expect it to happen this year.
そして、次の仕事に役立つ人脈を紹介いただけることになった。わたしのこれまでのネットワーク上にはいない々との接点になるので、期待したい。
Second, I asked him to introduce me to his colleagues who work in the department related to my new job. Since I’m not acquainted with those individuals, I believe that expanding my professional network through these introductions will be advantageous.
