We all went to the hospital and my child got vaccinated today.
病院の待合室に、子供連れの外国人がいた。
When we arrived, a foreign mother with her child was waiting.
わたしたちと同じく、予防接種を受けるために来ていて、問診票に書かれている日本語がわからず看護師に質問をしていた。
They came to the hospital and her child also got vaccinated. She asked a nurse about the meaning of some of the sentences written in the questionnaires because she didn’t understand.
しかし、回答する看護師は英語ができなかったのか、全て日本語での対応であった。
However, the nurse seemed not to speak English and only explained in Japanese.
書き言葉はわからなくても、話し言葉はわかるようだったので、わたしの出番はなかった。
I tried to help the nurse translate the forms into English, but I didn’t need to as she understood the Japanese spoken language, so my help wasn’t needed.
