わたしが参画していない案件での週間打合せの通訳を依頼された。
I was appointed suddenly to an interpreter at a meeting that was held with a client weekly on a project I wasn’t assigned to.
通訳できるか不安だったが、やはりムリだった。
I was worried if I was fit for the job or not and wasn’t sure if I was able to do it.
こちらが言いたいことを伝えることはできたが、相手からの質問とそれに対する回答に対応できなかった。
I could tell the client what we wanted to say, but I wasn’t able to translate their questions and our answers for them.
日常会話ならまだしも、自分が関わってきてない技術的な会話の受け答えをその場でやるのは無理がある。
I may be able to handle daily conversations, but it was quite difficult to translate technical conversations into English in which I haven’t been involved in or understand the context of.
とはいえ、これは今後直していきたいところでもある。今回はできなかったが次回任される時が来たら、またチャレンジしてみたい。
This was the first time to do this task, so it can’t be helped even if there were small mistakes. I will give it a try when I have the chance next time.
